Announcement March 4, 2025

It is with a heavy heart we share that this year’s Canandaigua Lake Trout Derby has been cancelled. Unfortunately, we have been faced with several unexpected challenges which led us to this point. We love this event, its value to our community and the local charities it benefits, and this was not an easy decision to make. We appreciate your understanding, and we will evaluate bringing the Derby back in the future.

Established in 1981, the Canandaigua Lake Trout Derby has become a local signature event. Over the years, thousands have participated in the annual Derby weekend, contributing more than $275,000 to three local charities. The support from local businesses and communities all along Canandaigua Lake has been humbling. And the small but mighty Derby planning committee has tirelessly coordinated a top tier event, year after year. Our heartfelt thanks to all of YOU- our participants, volunteers, and supporters. We are grateful for your time, treasure, and lasting memories for more than forty years.

The Rainbow Trout is the only native trout in Canandaigua lake, please release whenever possible. The creel limit will be (1) fish.

Mercy Flight Central was founded in 1992. The Mercy Flight Central mission is to provide the highest level of critical care to injured or critically ill patients, regardless of ability to pay. Hospeace House, Inc.

Hospeace House Inc. located in Naples, NY, is a 2 bedroom Comfort Care Home for those within the last few months of life. Hospeace House provides 24-hour end of life care by trained staff and volunteers for up to two families at a time in a comfortable home setting. Hospeace House is funded solely by donations, memorial contributions, and our community’s generosity. There is no cost to the families, nor does the home receive any reimbursement from insurance companies or government funding. They make it their mission to provide a warm, loving environment focused on meeting the needs of the entire family with dignity and respect.

Our thanks to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Department and their lake patrol for all their help during the Derby. Thanks to the Ontario County Weights & Measures and Rochester Scale Works for their support. A $50.00 gift certificate will be awarded on a random basis at the close of each weigh station both Saturday 6/1 and Sunday 6/2 from all derby registrations. In an effort to support catch & release, all registered fishermen/women will automatically be eligible to win, without being required to bring in a fish. Need not be present to win. Winners will be notified by mail.
